Frequently asked questions
What is a subscript generator?
It converts normal numbers and letters into small lowered Unicode characters, like the 2 in H₂O. Because they are real text characters, they paste anywhere without special formatting.
How do I write H₂O and CO₂?
Type H2O or CO2 above and copy the result. Capital letters stay normal, and the numbers become subscript.
Why do some letters stay normal?
Unicode only includes subscripts for the letters a, e, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u, v and x. There are no subscript capitals, and the other lowercase letters are missing too. Turn on "Numbers only" if a formula has letters you want to keep as they are, like NaCl2.
Where can I paste subscript text?
Instagram, WhatsApp, X, Discord, Word, Google Docs, Slides, email and most websites and apps.
Is there a keyboard shortcut in Word or Google Docs?
In Word, press Ctrl and = on Windows, or Command and = on Mac. In Google Docs, press Ctrl and comma on Windows, or Command and comma on Mac. This tool is handy when you need subscript in places that have no formatting, like a social media bio.
